Ståle Stenslie fratrer som dekan ved fakultet for visuell kunst med virkning fra 31.juli, heter det i en pressemelding fra KHIO. Billedkunstner Tiril Schrøder overtar stillingen som dekan, mens Stenslie går over i et engasjement som professor for nye medier ved samme institusjon.
Aftenposten kan forøvrig idag melde om problemer med sammensettingen av nytt styre ved KHIO, der det bl.a. heter at Ellen Horn og Tom Remlov ble utnevnt til styremedlemmer uten å ha blitt forespurt på forhånd.

… and if somebody asks me what happend when the credits roll after a movie, I would normally be able to sum it all up in a few sentences. But no one can in this case? Why is that?
Please allow me to try, without claiming to tell the full and whole story:
1: young, cocky man is hired as dean in a new project that nowbody understood the total reach of during the ten year it was planned. KHiO came right in everybodys face somehow. Prosess for choosing dean is not open, and has a tinge of not-right.
2: Cocky, new dean says some cocky things that nobody really likes
3: The administration of KHiO, inkluding dean, makes more decitions and suggestions that nobody really likes.
4: Everybody continues to dislike the KHiO project and are good at telling everybody.
5: Cocky, new dean gets less cocky and less new but continues to be disliked both for representing KHiO, for the cocky things he once said.
6: everybody looses track of why who dislikes who but does not want to stop disliking somebody.
7: situation reaches a total collapse where nobody can say anything except that they dislike nearly everybody.
(and, again, this is a sum up after the movie is over. You can’t expect to get details, I would say).
And good luck to new rektor and dean! They have quite a job a head.

The fight has gone its full 12 rounds. Leave it be, we are all tired of this. I can only say its been thoroughly dissected internally and in the press etc, and to make a rerun just for you would be rather useless. Its like showing up at the movies when the credits roll and ask what the fuck happened.

Thats ok victorpritzkim, everybody makes mistakes.
I’m not that into the Norwegian art scene yet (I just moved to Norway a month ago), but I understand that there has been some controversy around Stenslie’s methods at the Academy. And controversy is a good thing, at least when it comes to art. But when it comes to the Academy I don’t feel “up to date” with the situation enough to elaborate any further. I’m sorry frodem.

It’s sad that mr. Stenslie is leaving the faculty of visual arts, he’s been doing some good work there. But then again, he’ll probably continue that at the visual arts department.
I’ll be looking forward to see his plans develop. The Oslo National Academy of the Arts need people like Stenslie to evolve.
